SHOTGUN RANGE

Maury County Gun Club has seven (7) Trap fields, five (5) American skeet fields, one (1) International skeet field, one (1) Crazy Quail field and a Sporting Clays course with fifteen (15) shooting stations.

Skeet originally started as a way of practice for bird hunters and it has developed into a very popular and competitive shooting sport. The rules allow the use of 12, 20, 28, and .410 gauge shotguns in the form of pump, semi-automatic, side-by-side, and the Over/Under. Ammunition comes in a wide variety but is to be no longer than 2 and 3/4 inches except in the case of the .410 which is 2 and 1/2 inches max.

Skeet is shot in an 8 position format. The fields consist of a half circle with the shooter starting in the left corner and moving through the half circle to the 7th position. The 8th position is in between the two houses in a straight line from position 1 to 7.
